Ragnar Granit Prize for Young Scientists

 

Ragnar Granit Society awards the Ragnar Granit Prize for Young Scientists in connection with certain international scientific congresses. The Prize is given to a scientist, usually under the age of 30 years. The criteria for giving the Prize include:

excellent scientific research
valuable results
fluent oral presentation of the work
good visual presentation material

The decision of the Laureate is made by The Prize Committee chaired by Professor Jaakko Malmivuo, chairman of the Ragnar Granit Society. The members of the Prize Commitee include the Conference President and other scientists involved in the conference arrangements.

The First Ragnar Granit Prize for Young Scientists

At the 2nd International Conference on Bioelectromagnetism, Melbourne, February 1998, the 1st Ragnar Granit Prize for Young Scientists was awarded to Paul H. Fleischmann from the Institute of Biomedical Engineering of the Graz University of Technology, Graz, Austria. His paper was entitled: "Computer Simulation of Bundle Branch Re-entry in a 3D Cellular Automata Model of the Heart" and co-authored by Prof. Paul Wach.

The Second Ragnar Granit Prize for Young Scientists

At the 11th Nordic-Baltic Conference on Biomedical Engineering, Tallinn, Estonia, June 1999, the 2nd Ragnar Granit Prize for Young Scientists was awarded to Jaanus Lass from the Biomedical Engineering Centre of the Tallinn Technical University, Tallinn, Estonia. His paper was entitled: "Modulated Microwave Effects of EEG Alpha Waves". He also was co-author in five other papers in the conference.
